Wine House Gurjaani

Not Inspected
Wine House Gurjaani is a family-operated company specializing in producing authentic Georgian wine made with minimal interference or the use of additives. Since 1864, wine-making has always been an inseparable part of the Aliashvili family. For 37 years, my grandfather worked in a wine factory where a great number of industrial wines were bottled. However, to pay homage to the roots and traditional wine-making methods, he always made wine according to an ancient Georgian, the Kvevri method, meaning the wine is stored in large, egg-shaped earthenware vessels buried below ground level. Kakhetian wine-making process is different from its European counterpart. It sets apart from the competition due to involving pressing the grapes in a foot-stumping wine press (Satsnakheli in Georgian) and then pouring the juice, grape skins, stalks, and pips (collectively known as Chacha) into clean Kvevri, which is sealed and buried in the ground so that the wine can ferment for five to six months before being drunk. Located in the Kakheti region, village Pkhoveli, 850 meters above sea level, the brand’s vineyards are processed only with bio preparations, meaning no chemical pesticides or herbicides are allowed. Standing on the experience and know-how passed down for six generations, Wine House Gurjaani takes pride in following ancestral footsteps while conscientiously continuing the 8000-year old success story and ever-existing art of Georgian wine-making. Wine House Gurjaani produces five different wine varieties (Khikhvi, Kisi, Rkatsiteli, Kisi-Khikhvi, Saperavi) a year, up to 1500 bottles each, with a maximum production capacity of 8000 altogether. Still, we can increase the quantity in case of demand. Throughout its existence, Wine House Gurjaani made a name for itself, garnered a lot of loyal customers both nationally and internationally, and became one of the most desirable destinations for tourists visiting Georgia, namely, the Kakheti region. Our wine is currently mostly sold in our own wine cellar (28 Rustaveli street, 1500, Gurjaani, Georgia) and a couple of prestigious restaurants in Tbilisi. As of now, the brand doesn’t have any experience with export but is open to new possibilities and opportunities.
